Description

Nansei wood derives its name for the Nansei islands which are scattered between Japan and Taiwan. These humid subtropical islands have both extensive evergreen forests and many swamps.

It usually has one smoother side which resemble the outside of tree stripped of it’s bark, and a rougher, more gnarled and texured side which is incredibly detailed. It is ideal for creating a natural-looking underwater environment that encourages various aquatic plants to grow. The textured side of the wood provides an excellent surface for mosses, ferns and other low-growing plants to latch onto, creating a beautiful and vibrant aquatic landscape.

Apart from its aesthetic properties, Nansei Wood has numerous health benefits for aquatic creatures. It helps to lower the pH levels in the water, making it more conducive for some species of fish and shrimp to thrive. Additionally, the natural tannins released from the wood help to mimic the natural habitat of aquatic animals, reducing their stress levels and promoting healthy behaviour. If you would prefer crystal clear waters, woods can be pre soaked or Purigen can be added to the filtration system.
