Description
Pistia Stratiotes has velvety hair and has a light green colour. This beautiful floating plant is easy to keep in an aquarium and pond, however it is not hardy for British winters. The plant grows in soft and hard water.
When floating on the surface of an aquarium, the beautifull, delicate roots grow long, reaching spectacularly down into the water. The roots provide safetly and environment enrichment to the fish as they swim amongst them. Shrimp enjoy crazing on the roots and Betta fish will rest in the soft roots.
A fast growing floating plant which will become more “plump” with high light and good quality liquid plant fertiliser added to the water. Can still be grown in lower lighting conditions, however, Water Lettuce will be smaller and some leaves may become yellow and more fragile.
A great plant for providing cover for nervous fish and wildlife. It’s nutrient absorbing capabilities also help reduce green water and other algae.
Pistia stratiotes, also known as water lettuce, is a floating aquatic plant that is native to either South America or Africa. The true origin of Pistia stratiotes remains uncertain.
This plant is a tender, floating, evergreen aquatic perennial with semi-upright blue-yellow-green leaves. Inconspicuous tubular-shaped yellow flowers appear as the weather warms in the summer. During the winter months take indoors and grow near a sunny window in water. This will help ensure its survival.
